James R. Moran of Oakdale, CT, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2021 at home with his wife Judy A. Moran, together for 38 years, and son Jason R. Moran. Jim was born December 10, 1951 in Pawtucket RI. He was predeceased by his father Robert D. Moran and in addition to his wife and son, he is survived by his father’s wife Jackie of Newport Richey Fl, his mother M. Susan Nelson of Florida, and a brother Robert J. Moran of Florida. Jim also leaves behind his long time and loyal friend Billy Bessette of Rhode Island, his Road Captain and good friend Tom LLoret, and many other friends and acquaintances from along the way, too many to mention by name. James graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Rhode Island and attended RICC. He had 45 years in law enforcement, 2 years with South Kingston, RI, 2 years with Narragansett, RI and retired as a Sergeant from Amtrak P.D. after 41 years. While at Amtrak he was considered a mentor by the young recruits joining the force. Included in his tenure at Amtrak he was tasked with security along with the Ct. State Police for then Vice President, Dick Chaney while he was giving a speech at the Coast Guard Academy. He also organized police protection for many years during Sail Fest in New London CT. He was also president of the New London Motorcycle Club for 10 years. Before stepping down, under his leadership: He created a patch which is now recognized in many New England States and others. Under his leadership, he took over the blessing at the beach and helped it grow to what it is today, established rides, participated in many charity rides, and was instrumental in expanding the club house which he designed. Jim started a new motorcycle club, NLMC Renegades for people who just like to ride, and also was a member of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club, a police bike club. He also was a member of the public safety committee for Montville since 2011. His services will be at the Montville Funeral Home 53 Norwich New London Tpke. Uncasville, Monday May 24, 2021 from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
