She was born on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1923 in Brooklyn, N.Y. The family moved to Norwich, CT in 1958.
She was married to the late Ernest Louis Covino for 41 years.
“Jenny” always had a strong work ethic. For years she worked in law and business offices in Manhattan before working in the Payroll and Personnel offices at the former Norwich Hospital for 24 years before retiring. She then worked for several years at the Norwich Savings Society before retiring from there. To keep busy Jenny then worked for Cumberland Farms in both Connecticut and Florida which became 25 years of employment. At the time she was the oldest Cumberland Farms worker in the Country retiring at 90 years of age.
Her hobbies included cooking, bowling and classic movies. She most loved to host her traditional Sunday dinners and welcomed family, neighbors and anyone who entered her home. She was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Patrick Church in Norwich where she continuously said prayers for everyone.
She leaves behind four sons and daughters-in-law: Eric and Patricia Covino, Anthony Covino and Jan Heller, Ernest and Patsy Covino and Daniel and Sandy Covino, grandchildren Ernest James Covino, James Covino, Katharine Covino, Anthony Covino Jr., Joseph Covino and one great-grandchild, Brendan Covino. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held at the Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Avenue in Norwich on Tuesday evening November 19th between the hours of 6 and 8pm. A Mass and Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick Cathedral in Norwich on Wednesday, the 20th at 10am. There will be no procession from the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
