Dorothy Hungerford, 88, of 281 Hamilton Ave, Norwich, CT, passed away on May 6 after a brief struggle with cancer. She was born in Norwich, the daughter of former Nowich police chief Clarence Simpson and wife Victoria (Pekora) Simpson. She was a 1943 graduate of Norwich Free Academy. On Sept. 11, 1943, she was united in marriage to the late Joseph (Parker) Porucznik. He died on Aug. 5, 1955. On Dec. 30, 1975, she was united in marriage to the late Ransom Hungerford. He died on Nov. 28, 2011. She was an avid New York Yankees fan. She also enjoyed playing bingo with her friends at Hamilton Park. Throughout her life, she maintained close ties with a group of childhood friends whose “ladies who lunch” friendship of many decades was featured in the local paper. She leaves two daughters, Elaine Heeren and husband Bill of Vero Beach, FL, and Jean Parker of Westerly, RI, as well as four grandchildren, Aaron Borsher and wife Krista of Pawcatuck, CT; Meghan Borsher of Westerly, RI; Manda Salls and husband Greg of Belmont, MA; and Danielle Riley and husband Will of Preston, CT. She will also be missed by her four great grandchildren, Aaiden and Cameron Borsher, Gabe Rutland, and Sabrina Salls. A private burial will be held on Monday, May 19, at 11 am, at First Church of Christ, Congregational Cemetery in East Haddam, CT, followed by a 1:00 pm Celebration of Life for family and friends in the community room at Hamilton Park, 281 Hamilton Ave., Norwich.
