Charles was born on April 7, 1922 in New London, CT, the son of Charles and Ethel (Miller) Carlson. On April 25, 1943, he married Mary “Mae” Carlson in Waterford. He is survived by his son, Bill Carlson, and his wife Kathi of Preston, CT (with whom he lived for the last 4 years) daughter Dawn Linton and her husband Steve of Williamsburg, VA, and his daughter Linda Wray and her husband Jim of Gales Ferry, CT. Charles also had very special grandchildren, and great grandchildren that meant very much to him.
Charles was a veteran of WW2, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was employed at Gruskin Hardware, managed Campbell’s Hardware, and then retired from General Dynamics in 1984. He was actively involved in his Faith, as a Sunday School teacher of “his” 4th grade boys at Groton Bible Chapel, and then as an active member of the Wellspring Fellowship of Mystic.
His interests included building perfect wooden row boats, being by the water, riding his bicycle for miles…even into his 80’s, trucks, guns, reading scripture, and visiting with friends, especially his good and faithful friend Rick Clifford. We will miss his love and sense of humor, but we are thankful that we know where he is, and that he is now at peace and happy.
A memorial service will be held at the Leffingwell Baptist church at 388 Salem Turnpike in Bozrah, CT on June 21, 2013 at 7 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please spend some extra time with someone you love. Our time here is short. Spend it well.
