November 4, 1943 – March 28, 2023
Sharon Kathryn Peterson passed away peacefully on March 28, 2023, at her residence in West Hills, CA, surrounded by the family she adored.
She was born November 4, 1943 in Dubuque, IA, to Raymond and Florence Gantenbein. The family moved to Los Angeles, CA when Sharon was in second grade. She met her high school sweetheart Dennis Peterson at Cleveland High School in Reseda, CA. She invited him to the vice-a-versa school dance and they became inseparable from that day forward. They married in 1961 and shared a lifetime of love and happiness.
Sharon inspired those around her with her positive, cheerful outlook. She worked as an Administrative Assistant for LAUSD for 23 years. There she thrived with her organized manner and kind personality. She loved getting to know the children, parents and teachers and gained many life-long friendships during this time.
During the 80’s, Sharon felt fancy driving her pink Cadillac while flaunting her long red nails. Then in the early 90’s, they painted the Cadillac white to match the new decade. One of her favorite hobbies at this time was taking Polynesian dance classes with her daughters.
Her family and friends were her life. She made a point to focus on them daily. She had many happy memories as a Girl Scout leader and a Woodcraft Ranger member with fun outings and trips. She especially loved the camping and fishing trips to the High Sierras and Carpinteria with family and friends.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, younger brother Ray “Buzz” Gantenbein, and younger sister Janice Gantenbein.
Sharon is survived by her husband Dennis Peterson, sisters Rae Lynn Love, Susan Haba and Denise Dailey, children Deanna Courtney (John), Blaine Peterson (Tena) and Stephanie Beck (Ash), grandchildren Sara, Kevin, Josh, Jake, Jennifer, Sean, Sofia, Cameron, Ansel, Brandon and Ashley, and great grandchildren Owen, Eleanor, Taylor, Adrian, Morgan, Casey, Lena, Jerry, Alex, Payton, Ava, Nalani and Charlotte, plus many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held April 20, 2023, from 5pm-7pm at Bastian & Perrott, Oswald Mortuary in Northridge, CA.
A funeral service will be held April 21, 2023, from 10am-11am at St. Bernardine of Siena Catholic Church in Woodland Hills, CA.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice in Sharon’s name as her heart was as large as her love for others.
