NORTHPORT | William Jerry Strickland, age 74, of Northport, died March 30, 2015, at home. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Williamson Cemetery with Rev. Jim Headley officiating and Sunset Funeral Home, A Dignity Memorial Provider, directing.
He is preceded in death by his father, Gilbert Strickland; mother, Rhodie Strickland; and brother, James Strickland.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Sue Strickland; daughter, Ashley Strickland Lightkep (Donnie); sons, Jerry "Bo" Strickland, Gary Strickland (Lenka), and Todd Strickland (Ingrid); sisters, Peggy Leatherwood (Lewis) and Judy Presnall (Marshall); brother, Jimmy Strickland (Sue); grandchildren, Clay Strickland (Becky), Cody Strickland, Morgan Hopson, Dakota Lightkep, Wesley Hopson, Meridith Hopson, Will Strickland, Caleb Holeman, Alayna Lightkep, and Emma Strickland; and great-grandchildren, Garrett, Abby, and Lydia Strickland.
Jerry was a man of many talents, who worked for Temerson Steel, a rescue diver for the Tuscaloosa Fire Dept., a supervisor at BF Goodrich, and owned both a service station and a welding shop. Jerry was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church and never met a man he would not help. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family.
Pallbearers will be Rick Johnson, Barry Johnson, Barry Black, Jonathan Hackett, Randall Prewitt, and Dannie Lightkep.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Wm A. Hill, Dr. Scott Fulgham, Jim Powell, BFG employees, TFD, Ridgecrest Baptist friends, Ken Swindle, A.D. Parker, Terry Roy and Anna Lois Bigham, Jesse Johnson, Evalee and Winston Plyer, Ray Emerson, Judy Ingram, Charles Herron, Beulah Williams, James Greer, Evan and Cameron Johnson, David and Nobie Ewing, Joan and Don Lightkep, and Jerome and Gwen Whitfield.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ridgecrest Baptist Church Building Fund.
