Born at home, in Gordo, AL, she attended Gordo High School, and in 1942, at age 17, married her sweetheart, Wadie G. Carver. Towards the end of WWII, they moved to Mobile, AL, where her husband and father worked at the shipyard. They moved back to Tuscaloosa where they raised their two children. She lived on Shaw Drive, in the Holt area, for 65 years. She worked at Coed Collar Company, the Diana Shop and Gaylords Department Store in retail and management. In later years, she was a wonderful babysitter to a number of children who she considered an extension of the family. She also worked as a private sitter for a number of years.
To us, she was our Mother, Mother-in-law, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Great Great-Grandmother. She was our Sunday School Teacher and was Nanah to all who knew and loved her.
She began to attend the Bible Missionary Church in 1975. She was saved that year, and since that time, she has walked hand in hand with her Lord and Saviour! She has made it Home, where she is rejoicing at the feet of Jesus! She wrote in her funeral planning booklet, “The pride and joy of my life has always been my children, grand children and great grand children, my church, my Bible and my neighbors.”
Pallbearers are, Paul Carver, Kory Bryant, Larry Chandler, Andrew Black, Josh Rushing and Woody Wheeler.
Honorary Pallbearers are, Ross Vaughn, MD, Heritage Health & Rehab nursing staff, former neighbors of Shaw Drive, members of the Tuscaloosa Bible Missionary Church, Timothy and Renee Lawton, Rick and Judy Yancey, Crystal Sanderson, Teresa Carver, Rodney and Jennifer Green and Suzanne Watts.
