NORTHPORT | Rev. Mark Steven Armstrong, age 64, of Northport, died August 19, 2015, at home. Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2015, at Sunset Chapel with Rev. Bill Holley, Dr. Mark Berry and Rev. Henry Joiner officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with the funeral home directing. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2015, at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents Chuck and Ellen Armstrong; and sister, Susan Armstrong.
Survivors include his wife Teresa Armstrong, of Northport; daughters, Lauran Hance (Richy) and Elizabeth Captain (Nick); brothers, Phillip Armstrong (Janet), Ross Armstrong (Karen) and Kent Armstrong (Linda); grandchildren, Krysta Butler, Jessica Hance, Brandon Hance, Daniel Captain and Nicholas Captain; and great- granddaughter Malia Kassandra Captain.
Mark was born in Fort Wayne, Ind. He was the oldest of five children. He served his country in the U.S. Army for two years in the Vietnam War. He graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Business Management and Administration. He also graduated from the Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Mo. with a Masters of Divinity Degree.Mark's love of the Lord led him to pastor for 25years in Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Alabama. He was most recently a member and associate pastor of Holten Heights Church of the Nazarene in Holt. He touched so many lives and made many friends during his career. He was forced to retire from his ministries due to declining health.Mark was also a cancer survivor and a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He will be greatly missed.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Junkin, Loney Mullenix, Adam Taylor, Joe Rubio, Jerry Sanford, Wesley Mullenix, Ken Norton and Matthew Taylor.
Honorary pallbearers are Holten Heights Church of the Nazarene, Employees of Jamison Money Farmer PC., and Nursing Staff from DaVita Northport Dialysis Center, the many Physicians, and assistants who helped him over the last eight years with his care.In lieu of flowers, the family asks for your support of the Wounded Warrior Project, American Cancer Society , and the Humane Society of West Alabama.
