Mr. Oswalt was preceded in death by his parents Clelon and Ruby E.(Long) Oswalt; brothers Dalton and William Oswalt and wife Carol Jane Oswalt.
John was a graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School in 1958. He worked at Talley’s Automotive shop learning the craft of upholstery. He later went to work at the Tuscaloosa VA Hospital, he worked in nursing service for a number of years before transferring to the warehouse. He retired after 32 years, he maintained his upholstery skills as a side job. He had a full sewing shop in his basement, he restored interiors of automobiles for a number of car lots in Tuscaloosa. He could transform an old worn out piece of furniture into something looking brand new. After his retirement from the VA he worked during football season at Bryant Denny Stadium. He enjoyed meeting people and visiting with those at the stadium.
John was never a pet person until Jane brought home a poodle, then they took in random cats. There was even a time they bought huge bags of cat food and fed at least a dozen raccoons each evening on the front porch wall. Over the years it became more and more obvious he really was a pet person. He loved his fur babies, he would spoil them so much.
He will be missed by all and even the fur babies
