Donnie Ray enjoyed gardening with his wife and community. He liked to play music at his church, where he was a member for 86 years. Fishing, hunting, watching sports, and playing dominos were among the many things Donnie Ray enjoyed over the years. Last but not least, he thoroughly enjoyed riding his golf cart around the homestead consisting of two beautiful lakes with his sidekick and fur baby, Sparky. Donnie Ray retired from the county of Tuscaloosa as a machine operator of the road crew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Vera Mae Collins; brother, Jimmy Collins, and son, John Howell.
Donnie is survived by his lovely wife, Jeweleen Collins; son, Joe Howell; daughters, Patsy Hollingsworth and Brenda Stephens (Ted), 10 wonderful grandkids, 20 great-grandchildren that he adored, and additional family members, Clark Collins (Sandra) and Charlotte Green (Robert).
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at Oregonia Baptist Church with the family receiving friends at 10:00 AM and the service following at 11:00 AM. Brother Jimmy Holliman and Brother Gary Hill will preside over the service.
Pallbearers are Clark Collins, Greg Long, Jeff Oswalt, Justin Norris, Joey Howell, Buddy Stephens, Chad Christian, and David Baughman. Honorary pallbearers include Ricky Farley, Larry Leonard, Bruce Baughman, Dale Norris, and the church's family at Oregonia Baptist Church.
A very special thanks to the Enhabit nurses: Jennifer, Summer, and Penny, who helped care for Donnie Ray in the comfort of his home.
