Bonnie S. Strickland

She was born on March 10th, 1941, in Samantha, Alabama, a daughter of the late William Carnell and Jeanette Hewitt. She was a graduate of Holt High School and worked caring for patients at Bryce Hospital.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, William Jerry Strickland and her two sisters, Dot Johnson (Jesse) and Bobbi Murchison (Jimmy). She is survived by her cousin, Elouise Bonner (Cecil), her three sons, William Jerry Jr., Gary Richard and Michael Todd (Ingrid); one daughter, Ashley Strickland Lightkep (Donnie); ten grandchildren, Clay Strickland (Becky), Cody Strickland (Adrian), Morgan Hopson (Katie), Wesley Hopson, Dakota Lightkep, Meridith Hopson, Will Strickland (Riley), Alayna Lightkep, Caleb Holemon and Emma Strickland; and several great-grandchildren as well as her faithful dog, Ginger. She also leaves behind many other family members and friends who will sorely miss her.

She was a homemaker for most of her married life and a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa. She enjoyed caring for her large family, spending time with her children and grandchildren and was considered by many who knew her as a second mother.

Every day of her life was in service to others. She was selfless and humble with a wild heart. She was born from a twinkle in God’s eye, and He must have chuckled as He remarked, “Y’all watch this one.” Always ready for a prank, she was almost certainly one of God’s favorites for a laugh.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, October 19th, 2022, at Williamson Cemetery in Northport, with Reverend Ray Sullivan officiating.

William Jerry Strickland, Jr., Gary Richard Strickland, Michael Todd Strickland, Randall Prewitt, Tim Phillips and Wayne Phillips will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Jim and Joan Powell, Dr. William A. Hill, Dr. Phil Hemstreet, Ricky and Elaine Wallace, Brenda and Chris Grant, Judy Ingram and a host of good-hearted neighbors.

The one and only Bonnie Sue leaves behind a legacy of caring for those in need. Remembrances of her legacy may be offered in the form of a donation to one of her favorite charities, St. Jude Hospital and the ASPCA. Thank you on behalf of the Strickland/Lightkep families for all the outpouring of prayers and love. We will never stop missing our Momma.
