Sheila May Anderson

It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beautiful wife, mom and grammy. Gone far too soon, she passed after having surgery the week prior. She is deeply missed and will always be with us in our hearts and minds. Sheila was born in Vancouver and moved to Victoria in 1962. In 1972, she moved back to Vancouver to live with her twin sister Linda and be closer to her new boyfriend Barry. Sheila and Barry were married in December 1974 and shared almost 50 wonderful years together. In 1976, they moved to Saskatoon for Barry to attend university, while Sheila worked at the College of Law. They returned to their house in Burnaby in 1979. Their family grew with Michael and Jane being born in 1979 and 1982. The kids soon loved swimming in Osoyoos, trips to Sheila’s sister in Cranbrook, and many visits with both sets of grandparents in Victoria.

Sheila worked at home the first 20 years of their marriage, managing nearly everything including walking Pepper the dog, while Barry was busy working for BC Hydro as an engineer designing and repairing transmission lines all over the province. Once Michael and Jane were teenagers, Sheila was asked to take on the job of secretary at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Lynn Valley, where she worked for more than 25 years. She was so efficient at her job that she was frequently offered other positions at other churches on the North Shore. Of course, Sheila’s biggest job was managing her husband and two children. She provided them with loving care and guidance, always reminding them what they needed to do each day throughout the week!

Sheila will be lovingly remembered by her husband Barry, son Michael, daughter Jane, son-in-law Jeevan, grandchildren Malik and Farrah, sister Linda and family, brother David and family, sister-in-law Shirley and family, and all of Jeevan’s family. Sheila was predeceased by her loving parents Stan and Marjorie Jenkins, as well as her Uncle Bill.

The family would like to thank all who have provided support and their best wishes and condolences these past few weeks. A service of thanksgiving for Sheila’s life will be held at St. Clement’s Anglican Church at 3400 Institute Road in North Vancouver on Wednesday, May 22nd at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Clements Anglican Church and specify the Myanmar refugee family.
