Scott Alan Irvine

In loving memory of Scott Allan Irvine who passed away with his kids by his side on November 5, 2022. Scott has gone to be with his loving Saviour and back by the side of his wife, Trish of 45 years who predeceased him in 2018. He is also predeceased by his parents Helen and Laurie Irvine and his in laws Mel and Hazel Reilly. Scott at the age of 70 is survived by his son Jason (Sarah) Irvine, daughter, Crystal Irvine; grandchildren Adam Irvine, Jesse Irvine, Kate Irvine, Sage Fletcher and Ty Fletcher. Brothers and sisters in law, David (Wendy) Reilly, Carole (Gary) Galpin and many nieces and nephews Kevin (Emme Lee) Reilly, Gregg (Petra) Reilly, Rebekah Galpin and Chad (Madeline Elkins) Galpin.

Scott was born on September 10, 1952 in Vancouver, BC, to Laurence and Helen Irvine. He was raised in North Vancouver and graduated from Delbrook High School in 1970. It was there that he met Trish and they were married in 1973. After high school, Scott went on to BCIT where he got a degree in Pulp and Paper Management. With a new degree and wife, Scott moved to Prince Rupert for a short stint working at the pulp mill.

Scott and Trish would return in 1974 to North Vancouver where Scott worked for several companies; Craft Mill Supply, Dilor Dimming Ltd, William F. White and later Macdonald Detweiller. Scott took on various roles at these companies in Sales, Management, Facilities Management, and Business Continuance, until his retirement in 2017.

In 1996, Scott and Trish took two and half years off from their regular working careers to be the Care Takers at Daybreak Point Bible Camp, on Anvil Island. Scott and Trish had fallen in love with the camp years earlier while working on work crews and kitchen staff at youth camps run by dear friends, Bob and Bev Trainor. Many close friendships were developed over those years that would stick with them throughout their lives. Scott and Trish both loved to support youth and young adults as they grew and developed their own skills and talents. Many of the friends that Jason and Crystal have stem from the years at Anvil and all of those friends remembered Scott and Trish fondly, for the years they worked along side them on the work crews, work parties and kitchen staff.

As a child growing up in North Vancouver, Scott played football with the Gordon Sturbridge Football League. It was there that Scott developed a passion for the sport and it would always be dear to his heart. Scott went on to referee high school football as a member of the High School Football Referees Association. Scott carried on refereeing football until 2016 when he broke his foot and was forced to hang up his whistle and hat.

Also from a very young age, Scott developed a love of trains and model railroading. Scott collected HO scale trains and built/modelled several layouts over the years. In later years, Scott became a member of the Great Northern Preservation Society and travelled to a few of their conferences over the years.

Scott and Trish loved and supported their kids and grandkids with all their hearts. As their kids grew up, they taught them the importance of family and being there for each other. This has been passed on to their grandkids as well. Scott and Trish have loved and supported their family with their sports and activities, coaching football, cheering louder than anyone else at hockey, soccer and rugby games for their grandkids.

The family would like to thank everyone who has reached out and supported them over the last couple of difficult months as they have dealt with the sudden decline and passing of Scott. We would also like to thank the support and care from the doctors, nurses and specialists at both Surrey Memorial and Royal Colombian hospitals. In lieu of flowers, Scott wished for donations to the BC and Yukon branch of the Canadian Diabetes Society.

A Celebration of Life service will be held for Scott Irvine in January at Coquitlam Alliance Church. January 21st at 10:30 am.
