Elizabeth Robinson

April 1, 1928 – December 14, 2023

Elizabeth Robinson passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at the age of 95.

Elizabeth (aka Liese in her early years) was born in St. Elizabeth, Manitoba to Jacob David Klassen and Susanna Suderman Klassen and raised on a farm in the Kenton and Alexander areas. Elizabeth is survived by her older sister, Anne Klassen and predeceased by a large family of siblings including Susie Klassen Dirks, Neta Klassen Toews, Helen Klassen, Tina Klassen Dirks, Jacob Klassen, David Klassen and Henry Klassen.

Elizabeth started her career as a teacher working an elementary school in the lower mainland and decided that was not her calling so went back to school and became a registered nurse. She often reminisced about working a brief time as a nurse in London, England in the 1950’s as well.

Elizabeth met the love of her life, Norman, in 1958, through mutual friends on the tennis court. They married in 1959 and established their home in North Vancouver initially on Clements Avenue and then settling at Poplynn Drive. Kenneth was born in 1960, David in 1962, and Julie in 1965.

Elizabeth developed hobbies and interests including playing bridge with a core group of friends she maintained since the 1960’s, appreciation of classical music including attending Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Vancouver Opera for many years, along with an admiration of artwork and paintings often visiting museums around the world and for many years visiting the Vancouver Art Gallery. She enjoyed listening to her CDs and records and listened to CBC radio every morning for many years. An avid reader, she often would have 2-3 books on the go at a time. She enjoyed cross-stitching, sewing, and reading the newspaper each morning and also spending time working on the New York Times Crossword puzzle.

Elizabeth enjoyed travelling including cruises and bus trips with Norman and also family members.

Elizabeth had an unshakeable quiet faith in God and was a congregation member at St. Clements Anglican Church for many years and then St. Catherine’s. When Norman had his brain injury in 1979, she was committed to his recovery through faith and support from church, family and friends.

When Elizabeth moved into Summerhill Parc, she enjoyed there often comparing it to being on a cruise ship! In recent years, some of her evenings included spending time with the family and especially enjoyed her grandchildren, Nicole, Katrina, Jacob and Brock. Elizabeth enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy and if her children and grandchildren were visiting, she would still expect everyone to watch with her!

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Catherine’s Anglican Church, 1058 Ridgewood Drive, North Vancouver, BC at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 5, 2024. The service will also be livestreamed – link is https://www.saint-catherines.org/events/memorial-for-elizabeth-robinson . In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation.
