We are saddened to say farewell to Doreen Taylor White, who passed away peacefully May 17th at Lions Gate Hospital at the age of 94.
Doreen was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Robert Arthur White who passed in 2014. Doreen leaves behind her children Brian, Jacqueline, and Glynis. She leaves a wonderful legacy in her grandchildren Eric, Genevieve, Lena, and Mark, and great grandchildren Chloe, Emily, Cillian, and Elias. We all miss Doreen’s happy and positive presence in her newly renovated Lynn Valley house where she moved for the end of her life.
Doreen was born in Mitchum, England, in 1924, the only daughter of a successful baker. Doreen was an accomplished artist and potter and attended Wembley College of Art and Design. Doreen married Robert in in 1944, and after the war moved to Sussex where Brian, Jacqueline, and Glynis were born. In 1958, Doreen moved with her family to North Vancouver, where she worked in Eaton’s art department for many years. Doreen then developed a career as a portrait artist and life drawing and pottery instructor at Capilano College and continued her active role as an artist and instructor for many years after retirement.
The ‘White House’ on Sunnycrest Drive was always full of life and energy, with art lessons, parties, and constant remodelling always in process. A Celebration of Life for family members and friends will be held in August, and donations may be made in memory of Doreen to the charity of your choice. Flowers are gratefully declined.
