Donna Helene Fletcher (nee Wheeler)
October 31, 1934 to August 21, 2024
Donna was born in Cranbrook on October 31, 1934. As a young girl she showed prowess in piano, skating and later the Cranbrook Girls Bugle Band. Talented, athletic and beautiful, she was a triple threat.
When she was 8 years old her Dad bought a cabin at Moyie Lake which has become a generational meeting place, emotional touchstone and a beautiful family legacy that continues on to this very day.
After highschool, Donna attended UBC and became a teacher. Her first job was at Ridgeview School. Her students adored her but no one adored her more than her fellow Ridgeveiw staffer, Don Fletcher. In 1958 they were married and started a life together. As a teacher Donna was known for her artistic creativity and especially her elaborate musical productions. Her former students fondly remember these shows to this day. One of her favourites was the Wizard of Oz.
She and Don loved to travel and took many trips abroad with family and friends. They rarely missed a summer at “the lake” and this past summer was no different as Donna enjoyed hosting her children, their spouses and especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Donna is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Don Fletcher, son Scott (Shelley), Daughter Kerri (Andy) and grandchildren Jordynn, Lace and Logan Anderson and grandson Rowan Fletcher.
Donna is predeceased by her parents Hollis “Slim” and Helen Wheeler, brother Robert, sister-in-law, Tommy, sister Audrey and brother-in-law Norm Ratcliffe.
She will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all.
Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly,
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then, oh, why can’t I?
