My heartfelt condolences to Charles’ loved ones. 

I worked with dear Charles at Canada Customs in the early 90’s but can still remember his smile and the sound of his laughter. 


As an airline employee at Vancouver airport, I had many encounters in Canada Customs. Charles always was professional in dealing with the business at hand, but at the same time, shared kindness and, good humour .. He illustrated it is possible to get the job done, and maintain respect, all in a positive way. Charles was a fine example  of what an enforcement officer should be, what we all should be. My sincere condolences to the family

I regret having only heard this news at this late date.  Working with Charles at the airport was always a delight.  Charles never took anything too seriously and injected his humour at every moment it seemed.  He cared about people deeply, witnessed partly in his commitment to union activities.  We worked on that together too.  Charles, wherever you might be now, it will be a better place for your presence.  John Cowan, Pender Island.

I’m sorry to hear of his passing. Charles was a kind soul with a big personality and infectious laugh. I loved working with him every day. May he be resting in eternal peace. 

Charles was one of the first people to greet me when I started my new job at his office, 20+ years ago.  He made me feel welcome, and over the next few years working with him was always a good time.  
With his vast life experience, and somewhat wicked sense of humor, he shared his knowledge but more importantly, his wisdom.  I am thankful that I had a chance to know Charles and to think of him as more than just a co-worker – he was my friend.  My sincere condolences to his family and friends.      

Dear Irene, I was so very saddened to read of Charlie’s passing.  We were friends since junior high school, I consider Charlie one of my closest friends in school. Approximately 20 years ago I was visiting in Vancouver and got him touch with Charlie. We met for lunch in a local restaurant and had a wonderful visit.  I think it lasted for about four hours. It was a wonderful trip down memory lane.  We had the occasional phone conversation since that time, the last time being in the early part of 2022. I could tell his memory was slipping a bit but we still had a wonderful conversation.  I have had several conversations with Charlie’s old friends from school over the last couple days. Everyone had wonderful memories to share of Charlie, especially Susan Tanner. And I am passing on her message of sympathy to you. Sincerest condolences to you and your family on the loss of your brother.
