JOHNSON, Boris – died peacefully in North Vancouver, BC, on October 28, 2024 - born in Russell, Manitoba on October 30, 1933; survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Irene; sister-in-law, Dorean Standbrook, brother-in-law, Bill Standbrook, a niece and nephew in the Vancouver area and numerous cousins in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Connecticut, USA. Over the years, Boris gathered and cherished many close friends who will also miss him with sadness.
Although born at the nearest hospital in Russell, Manitoba, Boris grew up in Marchwell, Saskatchewan, with parents Pauline and Gilbert Johnson. After primary school, he attended high school in nearby Langenburg, graduating to United College in Winnipeg. His career began with the former Trans-Canada Airlines (now Air Canada) at the Winnipeg Airport. He later moved into sales with STP Canada, eventually becoming its Western District Manager. The company transferred Boris to Vancouver where he remained Western Manager until STP closed its business in Canada. He subsequently created his own sales agency, which he operated until retirement in his seventies. Travel was always a passion for Boris. Earlier in life, he visited diverse countries in South America and Europe where he connected with relatives in his family’s ancestral home of Denmark. Later, he and Irene retraced some of his previous tours, including a New York City nightspot where Boris had sipped his first martini. They also ventured on numerous visits to England, Germany, Portugal and the United States. Boris enjoyed his latter years to the full, supported by loving family and friends who will have treasured memories of him.
