Barbara was born to Patricia and Hayden Williams in Langley, BC. She was the youngest of six siblings and had a large extended family. She grew up sharing a room with her grandmother, Christina, who was known as “the family baker” and passed on her skills to Barb and her two sisters. The whole family square danced and Barb loved horseback riding. She and her sisters grew up working in the family garden and what was considered work in her younger years became Barb’s lifelong passion.
After graduation, Barb wanted a room of her own and moved to the trendy Kitsilano area. As a young career girl, she loved living in Kits. She developed great clerical and communication skills, she was curious by nature, sharp, quick to learn, and always accepting life as it was.
Barb and her first husband, Larry, shared two daughters – Ashley and Kelsey. In the early 90’s, Barb moved to the North Shore with her girls and settled into the Mount Seymour Parkway area. She loved being a mother and said it was amazing watching her girls grow up.
In 1993, Barb started her 20+ year career with VCH as a schedular for the Home Support Dept. on the North Shore. It was her “niche” and she loved getting to know her clients and the community health workers over the years. She was well-liked by her co-workers, clients, and CHWs – always there to help and always fair to all.
During that time, Barb met Ken Bazin. They moved in together as a family to his home before adding a new family member, Chloe, a golden retriever. Barb and Ken married in 2002. Together, they enjoyed boating, crabbing, camping, gardening, vacationing to Mexico, the Caribbean, and their last voyage, a cruise to Hawaii.
Around noon on Friday, September 25, 2020, while sitting in her garden with Ken and their dog, Holly, beside her, Barb passed away. She took with her memories of all of us who loved her.
Predeceased by her brother Gordon in 1967, her mother Patricia in 1994, and her father Hayden in 2012.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Ken, daughters Ashley (Torin) and Kelsey (Reid), brothers Kendall and Reid (Carlea), sisters Christina (Wayne) and Arlene (Lyle).
The family would like to give a special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at LGH Oncology, community health nurse Sandra, CHW Eva with VCH Home Support, and Paega at Wellness Pharmacy.
