Fred Case was a steadying example for a lot of us young soldiers in Vietnam. Confident, prepared and supremely capable he was also a hell of a lot of fun. Troops trusted, and responded to, his leadership. He never bragged of his abilities, nor abused his authority. If a leader doesn't have the respect of his men, he has nothing. Fred more than earned that respect. It was a pleasure to know him.

To the family of Fred Case,
I just learned of Fred's death and I regret your loss.  In 1966-67, I served under Fred in Vietnam.   He was an outstanding NCO, and I had great respect for him.  The greatest example of physical courage I ever saw occurred when -- with the North Vietnamese soldiers near our perimeter -- Fred stood in an open clearing and with two flashlights guided in a helicopter to evacuate one of our seriously wounded soldiers.


You made a difference.  We will all miss you.


uncle fread was special to alot of his family. we didnt  get to see much of him becouse of him being overseas or spent every moment he could with his family but when we did we all tryed to be there. he came from a family of five . he of course was the only boy. there was maxine who helped take care of him when his mom had a hart attack  Theres joyce,  And then there is margie who was very close to him. and those three girls are still around . then there was flossie who has  died several years ago. im going to miss him  visiting all of us when he comes to see his big sister. his laugh and his smile was so wonderful it just brightened up all are lives. uncle fread was very special and will be in are harts forever.


A superb professional soldier and it was a privilege to have served with SGM Case in B Co. 1-12 Infantry of the 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Lewis, WA and in combat with him in Vietnam  --  from early 1965 to December 1966.   He was a trusted, reliable, and accomplished  leader; and an excellent example of professionalism to soldiers.  Well done Sergeant Major!!!  Rest in peace.  We'll miss you.

Fred was my platoon sergeant in Vietnam and trained us at Fort Lewis Washington! Fred was the best of the best and one of the bravest people I ever met! A soldier’s soldier! My wife Sally and I were happy and proud to spend time with Fred at some Red Warrior reunions! You will be missed my sergeant! RIP Fred!!

1st Sgt Fred Case was the top NCO in B company, 1st Bn , 12th Infantry regiment in Vietnam 66-67, commanded by 
 Lt. Mel Case. At that time i was the commander  of Hq Company, and knew Fred and what a tremendous NCO and and leader he was. he also attended several of our units reunions.  A good man and 
distingiushed soldier.

Memorial Gathering

Fred will be deeply missed by his daughters Barbara Case and Shirley Kharazi, son-in-law Mac Arai; grandchildren Keean Kharazi, Nichole Pacheco, Axel Arai, Wolf Arai; great grandchildren Nevaeh Pacheco, Jasmine Riggins, and Leiana Pacheco. Also survived by his sister Margie Gray, nieces Dianna Gray and Amanda Robertson. Fred was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Case and his son Mark Case.
