Frank was born in Chicago, IL on April 13, 1952. He was one of seven siblings from the marriage between Frank Anthony Kohnen Sr. & Margaret Agnes Kohnen (Groark). As a young lad, he enjoyed various activities including serving as an altar boy at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church, delivering the daily newspaper, and caddying at Edgewater Golf Club in Chicago. After graduating from Sullivan High School, Frank began working in the grocery store produce department, eventually joining Topco Associates, LLC where he had a very long & successful career heading their produce procurement division. He retired in 2016.
Frank met Valerie in 1972, and they were married in 1975. They were blessed with two beautiful children, Kevin in 1979 and Jennifer in 1982. Frank enjoyed life and the people in his life, especially his family.
Always a car enthusiast, Frank enjoyed buying & working on cars throughout his life, especially his Volkswagen and Porsche models. He also frequented car shows, winning many awards over the years and especially enjoyed sharing this passion with his son & grandsons. Later in life, another pastime he enjoyed was collecting & tinkering with vintage watches.
Frank was truly a great man & will be lovingly remembered by his wife Valerie of 47 years, his loving children Kevin (Shannon) and Jennifer, his cherished grandchildren Tyler & Jackson, his brothers Dan (Sylvana), Jim (Donna), Bob (Angie), his sister Peggy, and all his other relatives & close friends.
Frank was predeceased by his loving parents, Frank & Margaret Kohnen, his brother Rick, and his sister Patricia (Dave).
Loved ones will celebrate Frank’s life with a private service & memorial; in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
