Thinking about the time I have lived and remembering day by day every step of my life there is not a single day that she was not present in my life. When she pushed me or stopped me from something either right or wrong. She always was there to help me. Now time has passed by, she is not present but I believed she will always be with us.

Mama Tila, I just want to say I'm so sorry that I wasn't able to say good bye to you. I'm sad and hurt and angry at myself. But now are next to God, you know what's going on in my life and you understand me. I just want to say thank you for your love and kindness, smiles and for all the wonderful food you cooked. Mama Tila watched over all of us; but if I asked for one more thing, please watch over my son, you know which one. I will carry you in my mind and heart always. Love Ana

Mama Tila paved the way for the entire family to migrate to the U.S.A. in the 70's. She was instrumental to insure all her three children and their children, family and friends migrated to the U.S.A. to chase the American Dream. We will always admire your courage and be grateful to you. You were always the pillar of the Barahona family. You unknowingly touched many lives, therefore you always be in our minds and our hearts. Now that you are in heaven

It was 1980 or 1981, Julio and I had just joined the Boys Club. I remembered that At the club I had the opportunity work with stones. You could take a stone, cut it, give it shape, polish it and then set into a metal clasp with a necklace. This was going to be a Mother' s Day gift for Mama Tila. I remember she opened the gift, thanking me and put it aside. I really don't remember ever seeing her wearing the necklace when I was a kid. After all I was just 9 years old, plus it was made of cheap metal (the one that makes skin turn green) I would think about this stone From time to time, because I believe the Boys Club truly helped Julio and I stay out of trouble. As time moved on and the years passed, I found myself thinking less about my childhood and focused on the here and now. Until one day, at one of the family gatherings, the necklace that Mama Tila was wearing caught my eye, I couldn't believe it, it had been over 25 years and Mama Tila was wearing a gift I had given her so many years ago. I asked her about the necklace and told her shocked I was that she kept it for long, after all it wasn't even gold. She responded with a simple " this is the one you made me, I just changed the setting many years ago to wear it" This simple gesture and words helped me realize I was one of her favorite grandchildren.

I used to go to a carniceria called "La Bonita". She used to called it " La Chulita" and we would crack up laughing. I also loved that after her stories, she would tell us " Por eso no se dejen jode de ningun cabron" When Jaz was little she would say " dancing, dancing" to get her to dance.

Mama Tila " I thought of you with love today but that is nothing new, I thought of you yesterday and days before that too. I think of you in silence, I often speak your name. All I have is memories and your picture in a frame. Your memory is my keepsake with which I'll never part. God has you in his keeping, I have you in my heart". I was always proud to be your first grand daughter. I love you and I miss you, I'll never forget our talks, the dirty jokes, the cooking advice but most of all your thoughts on relationships, men and how to keep them happy :-) I will always remember you with a smile!!! Love.

Mama Otila was an exceptional woman. In spite of her aches and pain, she kept a beautiful smile and an uncanny sense of humor. I will always cherish those moments when Mama Otila quipped and made everyone laughs. I already miss Mama Otila’s delicious soupitas but above all I miss her wit and smile.
