Sandra Elaine Eaves Deese (Raines) passed away in her home in Florida on December 19, 2022. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Danny Deese, at Carolina Memorial Gardens on Saturday, September 9, 2023. Sandra was the daughter of the late Mildred Eaves Cathcart and Clyde Cathcart. She is survived by her daughter, Leslie Deese Garvis (Rick) of Fort Worth, Texas, her brother William (Billy) Cathcart of Union, SC, nieces Donna Ivey (Byrd), Lori Sanders (Tracy), Amy Riddle (Mike) of Union, SC, cousins Diane Baggett Turner (Russell) of Summerville, SC, Nancy Whitehead Lawson, Tammy Whitehead Stokes (Shane) and Sammy Smith (Mary Ellen) all of Union, SC., Mysti Atwell (Shawn) and Shelbi Atwell of Goose Creek, SC.
Sandra was born in Union, South Carolina and graduated from Berkley High School in Monks Corner, SC Class of 1962. After high school, she worked at Creech’s Florist and Charleston Plywood Company. She met her husband Danny Marion Deese of Charleston (Chicora Class of 1962) and they were married September 9, 1964 at Lydia Baptist Church in Summerville, SC. Danny worked for Southern Airways so they lived in various cities throughout the United States as well as spending time in Germany while Danny was in the Army. They were married for 7 years before having their only child, Leslie in 1970. Just six months after the birth of their daughter, Sandra’s husband Danny was tragically lost in the Marshall University Football Crash on November 14, 1970 which killed all 75 people on board.
Following Danny’s death, Sandra found the strength and determination to make a life for herself and their daughter with the support of her family. She went on to attend business college studying Business Accounting and Fashion Merchandising and eventually moved with her daughter to Orlando, Florida, where she and Danny had spent their honeymoon.
Eventually Sandra remarried after her husband’s death but she never got over losing Danny and talked of him frequently in the years preceding her death. Even though 52 years had passed since the death of Danny, the love they shared never went away. The family decided that it was only fitting to reunite her in death with the love of her life.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 10:30am at Caroline Memorial Gardens located at 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC. Following the service, the family will be gathering for a memorial lunch. All who knew Sandra and Danny are invited to join her family as we remember her.
