Mildred (Millie) Elaine Adams, 88, passed away on December 31, 2017, with family at her side. She was born in Hitchcock, South Dakota, daughter of Michael and Ellen LeGrand. She graduated from high school in Bonilla, South Dakota, and attended NW College of Commerce in Huron, South Dakota. Millie worked in various positions and locations for the U.S. government for over 6 years. In addition, she worked for over 18 years in the private sector. Her favorite job with the government was working for Major General Leander Doan with the 2nd Armor Division in Germany. It was at this job she met her future husband, William Adams, who was serving as General Doan’s military aide. One of Millie’s favorite parts of being a military spouse was the opportunity to travel throughout the United States and overseas. Lifelong friendships were formed during these travels. She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Summerville, SC. Millie was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William Adams. She is survived by her sisters Frances Puffer and Betty Ames (Wendell), daughter Susan (Tim Jones), son Michael (Shirley), granddaughters Elizabeth (David Coons) and Michelle Adams, grandson Ryan Adams, and great granddaughter Alexis Coons. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018 from 12 noon to 1 pm at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, with the Life Well Celebrated Service at 1 pm at the funeral home chapel. Burial to follow at Carolina Memorial Park In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
