Wanda graduated from Rosedale High School in 1949 then came to Norman where she met and married Vivian (Bib) Hames in 1950. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 10, 2000. Bib and Wanda began attending the Church of Christ that was meeting in the basement of the Cleveland County Courthouse after getting married and were lifelong members of the same congregation that eventually became South Canadian Valley Church of Christ.
Wanda enjoyed participating in a bowling league early in her marriage. She had a life-long love of sports that began with attending little league games of her children to watching OU and OSU events and the OKC Thunder basketball team.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Bib, her parents Walter and Ida Carothers, brother Willis Carothers, and sisters Nadine Sue Cochran and Lavelta Williams. Wanda is survived by two children, Steven Hames and wife Gayle of Virginia, and Karen Hames of Moore; two grandsons, Matthew Hames and wife Kristin, and Andrew Hames; two great grandsons, Theodore and Henry Hames; three step-grandchildren, Maren Sass, Roland Sass and Lydia Sass-Lassak; two step great-grandsons Japser and Mika; two sisters, Bonnie Osborne and husband Jim of Moore, and Doris Daugherity of McKinney, TX, brother in law John Williams along with numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Wanda was a homemaker, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
A visitation for Wanda will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Primrose Funeral Service, 1109 North Porter Ave, Norman, OK 73071.
A funeral service will occur Wednesday, February 21, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at South Canadian Valley Church of Christ, 2217 24th Ave SW, Norman, OK 73072.
