She was born September 13, 1926 in Okmulgee, OK to Roy Vernon and Eunice Irene (Ford) Johnson. On September 20, 1948 she married Tommy Morgan Latham.
Nelda graduated from Central High School and went on to obtain her Bachelors of Science in Business from Oklahoma City University. After retirement she obtained her Associate Degree in Visual Arts from Oklahoma City Community College. She worked for Oklahoma Natural Gas from 1944-1948, and then for Cities Service Gas Company from 1948-1982 where she was a Corporate Assistant Secretary and Financial Analyst. Nelda was a member of MacDowell Club of Allied Arts, Pickwick Reviewers, La Petite Soeur Book Club, Redbud Women’s Club, Alpha Omega and Delta Zeta Sorority, Central High School Alumni Association, Ladies Music Club, Phi Theta Kappa academic fraternity, Sigma Alpha Iota music fraternity, and the Professional Secretaries Association where she was a Certified Professional Secretary and earned the title of Oklahoma City Secretary of the Year in 1980. She was also named Oklahoma County Homemaker of the Year and Delta Zeta Panhellenic Woman of the Year.
Her hobbies and interests included art, ballet, bridge, drama, puzzles, music, reading, boating and water skiing at Lake Tenkiller, and traveling. She visited all 50 states and 5 of the continents.
Survivors include her son David John Latham and his wife, Amanda; grandchildren: Emily, Daniel, Elizabeth, Katherine, and Samuel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings David Johnson and Elizabeth Vada Johnson.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, October 19, 10:00 a.m., at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in OKC. Donations may be made in her honor to the St. Luke’s UMW.
