Francis Michael Best, 60, of Norman died on March 20, 2010, in Norman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 26, 2010, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. A prayer service will be held at Primrose Funeral Service at 6:00 PM on Thursday, March 25, 2010. Michael was born on December 14, 1949, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, to Francis Marion and Mary Alice (Downey) Best. Michael, Julia and their son Keith joined in marriage and in family on August 19, 1973, at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Michael moved to Norman with his family in 1981and have lived there since. Michael was one of the founding members and served as the Chairman of the Board of the Cleveland County Habitat for Humanity. He was also a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and was a former Parish Council Chairman.
Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Alice; one niece, Tracy Lynn Carpenter and parents-in-law, Roscoe and Rosemary Gilmore.
Michael is survived by his wife, Julia; his son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Kristen Penn; his father, Francis Marion Best; his sisters, Trisha Pouzar and Pat Chambers; his cousin, Mike Whinery; his aunt and uncle, Teresa and Frank Whinery; four nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
