

Melvin graduated from Moore High School and later pursued an apprenticeship at Union Local #124 for Sheet Metal Fabrication and Installation. Throughout his life, Melvin enjoyed a variety of hobbies and passions, including listening to Elvis Presley, George Jones, and George Strait. He loved traveling, going on adventures, wood carving, hunting, fishing, and pulling pranks on his friends and family. Above all, Melvin treasured spending time with his beloved wife and family.
On August 26, 1961, Melvin married the love of his life, Betty Sue Allensworth. Together, they shared 63 wonderful years of marriage. They raised two children, Connie Sue and Christopher Lee, and created a loving home filled with cherished memories. Family gatherings, especially those with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always brought a smile to Melvin’s face.
Melvin instilled in his son the values of being a man of integrity, a loving husband, and a provider for his family. He taught the importance of honesty, trustworthiness, and the value of one’s word.
In addition to his work as a sheet metal worker, Melvin was an active member of his community. He served as a member of the Moore City Council, a Little League sports coach, and a small business owner. Melvin was proud to be part of Union Local #124 and contributed greatly to his profession.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Sue Robinson; his parents, Earl Clifton and Jewel Louise Thomas; his brothers, Dugan Thomas and Paul Thomas; and his sister, Joyce Barton.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Betty Sue Thomas, of the home; his son, Christopher Lee Thomas and wife Gretchen of Oklahoma City; his brother, Calvin and wife Naomi of Choctaw; his sister-in-law, Joyce Thomas of Moore; five grandchildren, Kaci Kai, Ashley Sjafiroeddin and husband Kyle, Kerry Higdon, Britney Thomas, and Zac Givens; four great-grandchildren, Avery Sjafiroeddin, Kol and Gideon Higdon, and Teagyn “TJ” Givens; his cherished fur baby, Sadie; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Melvin’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held for Melvin on Tuesday, April 1st, 2025 at 10 AM at Primrose Funeral Service, 1109 N Porter Ave., Norman, OK, 73071.
