Margaret Adele Johnson

Maggie was born September 26, 1954 at St. Luke’s hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Her family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where she grew up and graduated from Memorial High School in 1972. She attended the University of Oklahoma from 1972-76 where she received a Bachelor Degree in Social Work. She later attended graduate school at O.U. where she received a Master’s Degree in Human Relations, Professional Psychology Specialization.

Maggie worked at various mental health organizations throughout her career; Youth Services of Oklahoma County, Northcare Mental Health Services, the Child Guidance Services through the Oklahoma Department of Health and ended her career working for Bethesda Inc. the last 33 years. She provided services to children and their families, assisting them through their difficulties with expertise and compassion. She was recognized by the City of Norman, receiving their “Heart and Soul of Norman” award in 2006, 2007 and 2009. She served as mentor and consultant to many young therapists.

Maggie was known for her sharp wit, easy smile, fierce determination, never ending advocacy for abused children, capacity for friendship, her devotion to her mother, and her tolerance of others. She also had a special love of animals. She was a member of the First Christian Church since 1989, serving as a Deacon for several years.

Maggie died in her home on May 10, 2016 in Norman, Oklahoma after a prolonged illness. She is preceded in death by her father Virgil Johnson, her mother Virginia Johnson and brother David Johnson.

Her Memorial Luncheon will be at First Christian Church, 220 South Webster Ave., Norman, Oklahoma on Saturday, June 11 , 2016, at 12:00 noon. The memorial gathering will be held in the Fellowship Hall at the church, please enter at the bell tower entrance. In honor of her we will share a luncheon and then share memories of our dear friend and colleague. Please bring any pictures you may have to share with the group. Her cremated remains will be buried in Tulsa at Memorial Park Cemetery next to her parents.
