He was born in Bowlegs, Oklahoma to James and Ida (Foster) Benge on August 4, 1928.
Bill attended Norman High. He then left to pursue his numerous vocations, he was a “Jack of all trades.” He worked in several different fields and in several different places. From raising Black Angus cattle to construction then the Department of Corrections.
Bill traveled with his brothers all over the place; he hitchhiked from Sallisaw to Norman, and California. Bill even worked in the Aleutian Islands for a while, he did, and saw it all.
Bill enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, and especially gardening. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, and he always looked forward to the next family get together.
Left to cherish Bill’s memory is his loving wife: Vivian Benge, his daughter Genese McCoy and her husband Pat. His sons: James Benge and his wife Susan, and Marty Benge and his wife Shelly. His step-daughter Debbie Schwartz and her husband Mark. A step-son Michael Merrell. As well as his sister Betty Haddox. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild and many beloved friends.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and seven brothers. His son William Ray Benge Jr., and two grandsons.
