She was born on April 20, 1943 in El Centro, California to Rosie & Ed Elam.
Rosie later married Tommy Thompson who became Bettys lifelong dad.
Betty grew up in Oklahoma and was the oldest sister to 8 brothers, Doyle Elam-Thompson, Donny Thompson, Rodger Thompson, Bill Thompson, David Thompson, Ralph Elam, Ronny Elam and David Elam and 1 baby sister Connie Conine. She was so proud of all her siblings and had a special relationship with each of them.
Betty met Dawson Craig and they were married March 29, 1963. They built a beautiful life together over their 55 years. Betty and Dawson became parents when Brenda Ann was born on October 30, 1963. They added to their family on December 9, 1967 when Kelli Lyn was born. Betty was a wonderful mother. Her girls were the pride of her life. Betty became best friends to both of her daughters in their adult years. She also had a wonderful & fun relationship with her two son in laws, Mike Metcalf & Ricky Huffman.
Betty worked at Western Electric in Oklahoma City for 35 years. She was ambitious and driven in her career. Betty worked hard and took college classes to help her with many promotions. She was very respected and made many lifelong friends over her working years. She retired as an Electronic Tester.
Betty became a wonderful grandmother in 1990 when Brooke Ann was born in March and Kylie Lyn was born in September. She loved being a Grandma and opened her heart & life when Aubree became part of her family.
Betty loved reading novels, country music, traveling, playing cards, Cardinals Baseball, Sooners Football, Thunder basketball, being with family but most of all she loved her life. She was quoted saying “I wish I had 100 more years with you” and “If I could live my life over again I would do it over and over and over the same”.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Dawson Craig, her parents, Tommy Thompson, Rosie Thompson and Ed Elam, her brothers Doyle Elam-Thompson and Donny Thompson as well as several special brothers in law & sisters in law.
Betty is survived by her daughter Brenda Ann Metcalf & husband Mike Metcalf of Moore, Oklahoma, daughter Kelli Lyn Huffman & husband Ricky Huffman of Dumas, Texas, granddaughters Brooke Metcalf, Kylie Pope & Aubree Connor and great grandchildren Allison, Connor, Remington, Karter, Kainen & Kanyon.
Betty was loved by everyone who met her. She left a beautiful legacy of her well lived life.
A viewing for Betty will be held Tuesday, July 5, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Primrose Funeral Service, 1109 North Porter Ave, Norman, OK 73071. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, July 6, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Primrose Funeral Service.
