Robert Carlton Smith

Robert Carlton Smith, 81, passed away on February 2, 2023 in Wake Forest, North Carolina. Robert is predeceased by his beloved wife, Cheryl Lee Smith. He is survived by his adoring children: Joshua Smith, and wife Tina, and Sherry Smith Dillard, and husband Dill. Left to cherish his memory are his loving grandchildren: Christina McCuen, Deviyahn Hankins, Zachary Smith, Hayden Dillard, and AJ Racelis. He is also survived by his sister Betty Marvin and brother David Smith and wife Pat. He will be fondly remembered by a multitude of extended family members and friends. Bob was born on May 25, 1941 in Portsmouth, Virginia to the late Oscar Carlton Smith and the late Claire Louise Giles Smith. He was a reserve in the United States Coast Guard and proudly served the Norfolk Police Department for 32 years as part of the Officer Friendly program, Bike Patrol unit, and later served additional time as a Sheriff’s Deputy. Bob was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Volkswagen Club of Tidewater, Tidewater Coin and Relic Club, and was a faithful member of the Church of the Holy Apostles. He and Cheryl were long-time members of the Mid-Atlantic Roadrunners RV Camping Club. Bob was an avid coin collector and found treasures everywhere he went. Bob was a dear friend to all who knew him and will be greatly missed. A viewing will be held on Friday, February 17, 2023 from 6-8 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home, Norfolk. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 11am also at Woodlawn Funeral Home.
