Robert Benton “Bob” Richardson quietly passed away on May, 3, 2023 with his children by his side.
He was born October 26, 1938 in Valley (Fort Peck), MT to Russell P. Richardson, Sr. and Charlotte M. (Conway) Richardson. The family moved to Virginia in April of 1941.
After serving in the Army National Guard, Bob retired after 41 years as a civilian engineer with UERD (Underwater Explosions Research Division (US Navy)), which eventually became the Carderock Division of the Naval Surface Warfare Center, the Navy’s center of excellence for ships and ship systems. Bob then began using his skills in the private sector before spending his remaining years as an avid fisherman, golfer, and very dedicated and loving Grandpa.
Mr. Richardson was predeceased by his son, John Scott Richardson, and his brothers Russell Richardson, Jr. and Edward Richardson and his sisters, Ruth Chappell, and Betty Richardson.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Beth Marie Johnson (Pete), and son, Gary Steven Richardson (Jennifer), brother James “Jimmy” Richardson (Pat), and Nancy Richardson, Ann Richardson Stevens (Kirk), along with grandchildren Ryan, Haley, Benton, and Gracie, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation is scheduled from 4 pm to 8 pm on May, 8, 2023 at Woodlawn Funeral Home with a family graveside service to follow the next day.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org), POB 96011, Washington, DC 20090 or to Bayside Presbyterian Church, 1400 Ewell Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23455.
