Preston “Pres” I. Carraway, Jr., 88, passed away at home January 18, 2021. He was born in Little Rock, Ark., where he resided in his early years, graduating in 1950 from Little Rock H.S., before enlisting in the U.S. Navy at age 17 shortly after the start of the Korean War.
Pres completed a 24 year Navy career serving on several ships and shore installations including New York, San Diego, Millington Tenn., Long Beach Calif., Guam, and ultimately here in Norfolk/VA Bch before retiring in 1974. During his Navy career he received many awards including the Navy Commendation Medal (w/combat”V”).
Pres had a passion for Bowling where he contributed his service for over 2 decades. He was selected as the Norfolk Bowling Association’s Board Member of the Year 2 years in a row. He was also inducted into both the Tidewater Virginia Bowling Council and the Virginia State Bowling Association Halls of Fame.
Preceded in death by his parents, Preston Sr. and Ruth Carraway, his sister, Gloria, his wife of 44 years, Judy Carraway, and his son W. Roger Carraway, he is survived by his wife of 7 years, Sue Carraway; his brother, Walter; four children, Jimmie and wife Jerri, Preston III and wife Sherry, Linda Underwood, Nancy Meeks, and Roger’s wife, Nemi; five grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; and many other friends and loved ones.
Services and interment will be private.
