He was a great dad, but most of all he was my best friend.  I learned so much from him that made me what I am today.  I am truly thankful for the seventeen years that I've known him and for being part of his life.  We were blessed by his life.

I just found out today thru Face Book from my oldest sister Diana that Mike had passed away.  My heart is heavy and words are few.
Mary, Jackie, Katie, Lizzie and the rest of the entire family Today you are in my thoughts.  Tonight I will remember you all in my prayers.

Having only recently and briefly re-connected with Mike on Facebook I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing.  I have really OLD memories of Mike!  We first met at Lillian Emery Elementary School in New Albany and what a cute boy he was with his flat top haircut!  And smart, too!!  We were in the same class almost every year and he managed to win the silver dollar for having the most A's at the end of the year, much to my frustration!  We remained friends through high school and I'm so happy to see how much loved he was for so many years.  Best of all - to know that he is with the Lord!  May his family be comforted knowing there is much rejoicing in heaven!

Mike was blessed with the love of his family, respect and admiration of his peers, and the friendship and camaraderie of his fellow shipmates with whom he shared so much in common.  He loved is country, his family, and his Navy, and he will be sorely missed.  My heartfelt condolences to his family.  Mike will remain forever in our memories as a good friend and shipmate.

Deepest condolences to the family 

We must all go thru some hurt and pain….but damm it hurts are cut like a knife.... When some1 lose a LOVED 1 who has meant so much 4 so many years…. 

Months… Days…hours…min…seconds… It's hard 2 know how 2 begin expressing words of sympathy and comfort… I can only say that I knew Mike in passing him in the hallway at work we talk and say good morning and he would smile or when I saw him anytime of the day a good hello would be exchange. I'm touched by his passing, and may GOD of PEACE  watch over you all during this painful time.

Mike was a joy to work with and a great mentor.  He always took the time to truly listen.  We always appreciated his insights and most importantly his friendship.  He will be deeply missed.

Mike was such an inspiration to me over the last few years. His strength and serenity was contagious. We had many a conversation about how being survivors put life in perspective for us both. I was in awe of his positivie attitude through it all.  The Lord held him close, kept his fears at bay, and it was His will, that Mike was ready to come home. Eternal rest to you my friend, and comfort and peace to your family through this sad time!

Mike took me under his wing when he hired me to be his right hand "man". He taught me to love Ship Maintenance and learn how to listen to the issues brought to us daily. He would tease me as I did my work...he let me know how important our work was for the Navy and the Ships. Every day I worked for him we laughed. He loved talking about his children and Mary...he loved telling me he was a retired SUPPO...he loved calling me Shipmate! The day I left him and that job, for a promotion, I cried all the way home. I knew I was going to miss him and all that he was teaching me. Over the years I would keep in touch and he would always ask me how I was doing and how my husband was doing - that was the first thing he did...I am going to miss that big guy! He is up in Heaven looking down on us and his family...keeping an eye on us. Rest in Peace Mike.

To Mary and the Owen girls.  I am so grateful to have known Mike during the time I was at CTK.  He was a great host and fun guy to be around.  I remember Mike showing off  all his work in the kitchen... where we'd meet to celebrate almost anything. He was a generous, loving man.  I am saddened for you all for he was such a huge part of your family life.  I know all of you have wonderful memories to sustain you during this time of grief and sorrow. Thank you for including the many pictures that captured who he was. God is good and He fulfills His promises.  Lean on Him.

Mike - I will always remember the first morning flame spraying I witnessed you received from Captain Allen at SIMA Norfolk, the after work get togethers at the BOQ lounge "Chuck Allen"(Captain Allen's)home away from home and the many golf outings we participated in while stationed there. Years later, it was you who recommended me for the MCAP contractor support position in Carrier Team One. Thanks again.

I always looked forward to catching up with you on our familys' lives and work while attending conferences around the country. Even during your not so good days, you offered me great ideas for process improvement as a KCE that I took for action. May God bless you and your entire family. Rest in Peace Shipmate.

Mike had it right.  He always kept perspective.  When things seemed to be moving in the wrong direction at work he always gently moved us back on track.  His devotion to his family, while remaining such a significant positive influence on our Navy, is an inspiration to the rest of us.  He will be missed, but we will continue to honor him.

I had a long association with MIke while I was on active duty and never left a conversation with him without a smile on my face and a trust that he would do his best to "get it done". My sympathy and prayers are with Mike's family,

I knew Mike professionally while at AIRLANT. He was a true professional, but I was always most impressed knowing how Mike's life was centered on his family. Always a calming presence who caused you to think about what was important. Mike touched a lot of people in a positive way. I count myself among them. Most sincere condolences.

The most amazing father and man, tall and strong yet such a tender hearted person.  I only hope that I can take all the lessons and experiences that he gave me  and apply them to life to become half the person he was.  I know he is proud of his family, and we are exceptionally proud of him! I have never seen such strength as what I have encountered in the last 18 months, dad was a fighter.... I know we will see him again one day. He is waiting for us listening to some jimmy Buffett, eating pizza, doing crosswords, and practicing his golf swing.... Until then, I love you dad

Mike was a kind and loving man. He always had a smile and kind words for all of us at CTK when he came in to visit. Mike will be missed in our halls but his memory will live on forever. I am truly blessed to have had the opportunity to get to know him and his wonderful family! Please know you will all be in my thoughts and prayers!!!  Hug to all of you!!!

Mike was a dear colleague, mentor and friend.  I will always remember him as a true gentleman--a warm, genuine person who always gave you his full attention when he interacted with you and who possessed a rare ability to be the calming personality in any difficult discussion.  HIs love for his family was inspirational as was the valor of his fight against cancer--both only exceeded by his faith.  He will be dearly missed.  My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

Words can't express how saddened we are to hear of your loss. You and your family will continue to be in our hearts and prayers. Mike's love for all of you was so apparent...May God keep you all close in this trying time.

I am honored to have Mike refer to me as his shipmate.  He was a strong beacon of insight, hope and courage at a time when our naval community needed it.  Most vitally though, Mike and I shared a bond of faith, both holy and secular, in both a better life here and hereafter.  I will always treasure that bond.  I, along with my family (that includes the Visitation Monastery community of nuns) are praying for solace and joy for his family.

Our world and lives are better for knowing Mike Owens.  APQC could have not asked for a more supportive, fun, and inspiring colleague and friend during the past dozen years.  His leaving is too soon and he leaves a big hole in all of our hearts

I had the pleasure and honor to serve with Mike on the USS PUGET SOUND.  While there are many good memories of that time, one that stands out is how proud Mike was of Mary and his girls.  He wore his heart on his sleeve when it came to them; and nothing could bring a bigger smile to his face.

Mike would often come up to me over the years, long before his greatest struggle began, and talk to me about his love for the lord.  I know he is in good hands and that his family is being watched over by an angel of the highest order.  Mike was an exceptional man whom we will all miss daily.

Mike was a good friend.  We played in a lot of golf outings together and he was a voice of sanity in our office.  I heard him say more than once "Let's take the emotion out of this discussion" because too many people take things personally when a personal attack was never intentioned.  He always greeted everyone with "What's up shipmate?"

I visited Mike on Friday July 20th and the first words out of his mouth were "Ed, I'm in BIG trouble", but Mike knew where he was headed.     

Mike and I had talked about God and our relationship with God on a number of occasions.  Mike believed in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior so he knew he was going to heaven.  In the early stages of his cancer, Mike had already made his peace with God that if the cancer could not be controlled, he was ready to die.  I don't think anyone is ready to go through the pain of cancer, but I know that Psalm 116:15 says " Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints."  Precious can be implied as something physical, like gold or silver, but even more important to God is the preciousness of our perseverance under suffering.  That's because Jesus' suffering was precious to God and when we emulate Jesus, it is also very precious to God.  I believe Mike persevered (for God) in his suffering and as a believing "saint", God was pleased and glorified by Mike.  

Mike is now experiencing eternal life in a new and imperishable body, like Job says in Job 19:25-26 "I know my Redeemer lives and that in the end He will stand upon this earth.  And after my skin is destroyed, yet in my flesh, I will see God".  This is God's promise that after our earthly body is destroyed, we will have a new flesh in heaven.  Mike, I am convinced you are enjoying your new body in Christ, but you will be sorely missed on this earth!
