Karla was born in Richmond, VA, on March 25, 1980, but grew up in Norfolk, VA with her mother, Patricia Snider-Yarus, and her sister, Brooke Shambley. It was often said that Karla was born in 1980 but grew up in the fifties. Even in her youth, Karla was an old soul. Influenced by her grandparents, Karla’s favorite music ranged from polka to the great Crooners of that age including Crosby, Sinatra, Bennet, Fitzgerald, and much later, Michael Bublé. Karla also loved White Christmas, which she watched every December.
Receiving a Christian education, including being a student at Norfolk Christian High School, all contributed to the laying of a foundation for a deep passion for learning, reading, writing, and teaching. Karla was a paralegal by profession, but a Teacher of Truth by calling. She was a worldview revitalizer, helping others to examine how they saw God, the world, and everything in it, helping them make adjustments until it lined up with the truth of Scripture.
From a young age, Karla loved U.S. History, including the lives of presidents, her favorite always being George Washington. Karla’s work and studies aligned with her passion for God and Truth, and she wrote prolifically on how biblical truth creates healthy nations. From her life’s work emerged two books, her first being Back to the Future: Rebuilding America’s Stability, and her second being The Reformation of America. While Karla’s first book was written earlier, she launched as an author Sept 27, 2019, with The Reformation of America. Karla was later invited by renowned Bible teacher and reformer, Vishal Mangalwadi, to be one of the international contributing authors to his book, The Third Education Revolution (2021). Her chapter was entitled The University’s Failed Worldview: Secular Humanism. Karla’s work, including her writing on her website at KarlaPerry.com has received international acclaim, and she has been hailed as one of the emerging authors and thinkers in her field. We are so proud of her!
In 2002, Karla met the man who would become her husband, Joseph Brennen Perry. What began as a group outing to the new Star Wars movie turned into a romance that was forged in Christ. Karla and Joseph, two strangers, were seated next to each other. Within a few months he was ready to give her his whole life. Fast-forward two years, they pledged their eternal love in marriage on June 5, 2004. They were married for almost eighteen years.
Karla and Joseph grew in their relationship while being a part of Acts 2 church. Later, the Lord called them to start a church called Remnant Ministries, which they led for eleven years from 2007-2018.
Over the last several years, Karla was a woman just blossoming. She was a force to be reckoned with. Kind, but fierce. The world desperately needs what was sown into it by her life. Karla was a wife, a daughter, a sister, and aunt. She was an author, leader, pastor, thinker, and teacher (Eph. 4:11) called to equip the saints for the work of the ministry. She was a reformer and discipler of nations. And she was God’s beloved daughter who is keeping her safe and full of joy until we see her again.
A celebration of Karla's life will be held Saturday, February 26th at 11:00 AM EST at New Life Church Kempsville on 1244 Thompkins Ln, Virginia Beach, VA 23464.
