Clara Nita Mangum

Clara N. Mangum, 93, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on January 3, 2015. She was born on August 19, 1921 to the late William Marion and Grace Stott in Wilson County, North Carolina. Her husband Ordell J. “Art” Mangum, sister Glennie Rivera and brothers Donald M. Stott and James C. Stott all preceded her in death.
Clara lived in the Norfolk area the majority of her life. She was a member of Azalea Baptist Church, a member of Pankey Bible Class, the Civic League, and former member of Reynolds’s Baptist Church of Gates, NC. She was owner and operator of numerous restaurants in the Tidewater area, and was known as the “Mom”. Clara loved cooking, sewing, gardening, and above all her family.
She is survived by her children Jack W. Mangum and wife Diane of Melbourne, Fl; Joan Allie and husband Tommy of Norfolk, Virginia; and Tracy Mangum and wife Peggy of Stokes, NC; her grandchildren William Todd Mangum, Lisa Jo Chase, Jacquelyn Carol Riggs, Coby June Mangum, Tommy Lee Allie, Gretchen Marie Smith, Betty Anne Williams, Tucker Thompson and Frankie Labiaux; and great grandchildren Tara, Zachery, Noel, Shadrach, Zerah, Megan, Kaila, Jenna, Makayla, Michael, Joshua, Dee, Mark, Hailey, Billy Jack and Logan.
The family would like to express a special thanks to our loving neighbors on Pace Rd.
The family will receive guest from 6-8PM on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Smith and Williams Funeral Home Norview Chapel, 818 Norview Ave., Norfolk VA 23509.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2015, at 11 AM at the funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hollylawn Cemetery, Suffolk, VA. Memorial donations may be made to Azalea Baptist Church, 3314 E Little Creek Rd, Norfolk, VA 23518.
