Carol Deal Hudgins
6 octobre 1933 – 10 mars 2017
Norfolk - Carol Deal Hudgins, 83, passed away Fri., March 10, 2017 in Norfolk. A life-long Tidewater native, Carol was born in Norfolk, VA on Oct. 6, 1933 to the late James Harrison Deal, Sr. and Ella Warren Harrell Deal. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Eugene Carroll Hudgins; a sister, Alice Warren Deal; and a step-sister, Jane Mills Hanner.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Mark Carroll Hudgins of Norfolk, and Glenn Eugene Hudgins (Celia) of Carrsville, VA; brother, James Harrison Deal Jr. (Mary Ann) of Port St. Lucie, FL; a step-brother, George W. Mills of Norfolk; grandchildren, Hilary Boyer (Marcas), Christy Hudgins, and Jeremy Hudgins; and four great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her beloved brother-in-law, Joseph Trammel; and a host of longtime friends, including: Diana Barnett, Chris Kearns, Julie Fisher, among many others.
Carol graduated from Maury High School in 1952, and immediately began her career, working in a number of local businesses before moving to work for the Federal government, where she had a 28-year career with LANTDIV in Personnel Management. She retired in 1994, and spent the next 24 years enjoying retirement with her husband, traveling, playing bridge, and just enjoying life.
Coming from a long line of amazing cooks (Southern, of course), Carol loved to cook for her friends and family and try out new recipes.
Raised Baptist, Carol was a life-long member of Park Place Baptist Church, where she was baptized and married.
The family is grateful for the wonderful care given Carol during these last few months by the staff of Elder Care at Home Virginia Beach, especially Gina, and Drs. David Woods and Michael Lee.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thurs., March 16, 2017 at Smith & Williams Funeral Home Norfolk Chapel, on Norview Ave. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Fri., March 17, 2017 at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to Virginia Musical Theatre or charity of your choice.
Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all." Proverbs 31: 25-30
