Wilburn “Will” Herbert Holmes passed away peacefully on August 6, 2021 at the too early age of 69. Will grew up in Norco before moving to Destrehan, where he spent most of his life with his wife and family in Ormond subdivision. Throughout his working career he had multiple business ventures including an Apple computer store in his early days, followed by owning and operating a Shell convenience store. He also spent time working in the family business, Holmes Food Mart.
He was the 5th son of the late E.L. “Whitey” Holmes and the late Mary “Ellie” Holmes. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Ernest L. Holmes Jr., Ernest “Putch” Holmes, and John Coley Holmes. He is survived and missed dearly by his wife of 48 years, Terry Holmes, daughter, Kristin Holmes (Johnny), and son, Jason Holmes (Tram), who were there to comfort him in his final moments. Will was also the beloved “Popsie” to four granddaughters, Harper, Maisyn, Haidyn, and Everly, a role he cherished dearly. He was also survived by his brothers, Richard (Ann), Jimmy, Roger (Shawn), and Matthew (Mary), nephews, Aaron and Taylor, and nieces, Catherine and Carin.
Will was a man who made many friends along his life journey. He loved to connect with people and lived his life with true joy and happiness. Many will remember him for his infectious laughter or his adventurous spirit, others for his focus on spirituality. He was a devout and active member of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic community, serving as a Eucharistic minister and altar server, and attending ACT retreats and Manresa retreats.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 13396 River Road Destrehan, LA. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM with a Mass to begin at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow at St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, masses in Will’s name or donations to Cancer Research Institute at cancerresearch.org are preferred.
