Matthew Patrick Raiford Sr., a resident of Zachary, LA., passed away quietly on July 23, 2020, from complications associated with liver disease. He was 58 years old. Matthew (Matt) was born in Norco, LA., and was a long-time resident there where he enjoyed cooking, all sports and outdoor activities including baseball, football, hunting and fishing as well as any and everything LSU.
He is preceded in death by his mother Ivale Champagne Raiford, father George Bernard Raiford Sr., and brothers Patrick Raiford and George Raiford Jr.
He is survived by sons Matthew Raiford Jr. (Kayleigh), Blaize Raiford (Rachel), brothers Michael Raiford (Sherry), Timothy Raiford (Jeanne), Albert “Rock” Raiford (Karen) and Jeffrey Raiford (Becky). Survived also by wife of deceased brother Patrick, Ann Trepagnier Raiford. Matt leaves behind ex-wife Sherrill Moore Raiford, step-daughter Elise Moore (Brandon) and ex-wife Rhea Pollet Raiford of Norco, LA., who she and her sons cared for Matt during his final days prior to his death. He was grandfather to Irene and Brand.
Matt was blessed with many nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends. He was a graduate of Destrehan High School where he excelled in baseball and football. He worked and flourished in plant operations at the Shell Chemical Company in Norco, La., followed by employment at the Honeywell Chemical in Geismar, La. Following cancer surgery in 2010, Matt retired and resided in Zachary, LA.
There will be a private gathering and entombment in the St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum in Destrehan, LA. Special thanks to St. Joseph Hospice and Capital Nursing and Rehab Center in Baton Rouge, LA., who took such special care of Matt during the past six months.
