Charles “Charlie” A. Torres, Jr., a lifelong resident of Norco, Louisiana, was born on August 12, 1932 and passed away in his home on June 30, 2024 at the age of 91. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Edwina “Mitzie” Dufrene Torres; his three sons and their wives, Lyle (Debbie), Joel (Sharon), and Glynn (Debbie); his brother Larry Torres, Sr.; his three grandchildren, Ryan Torres (Alex), Alyssia Torres Kincaid (Matthew), and Anna Torres; and his step-great-grandchild Audri Kincaid. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles A. Torres, Sr. and Imelda Simon Torres; his brother Marc Torres; and his infant son, David Torres.
Charles proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was also an atomic veteran who participated in nuclear tests during Operation Upshot–Knothole. He retired from Witco Chemical Manufacturing after more than 30 years. Charles was a kind, soft-spoken man. He enjoyed fishing with his sons and his lifelong friend Milton Cambre and tinkering in his garage, repairing washing and drying machines.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Norco on Thursday, July 18, 2024, beginning at 9 a.m. Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery in Destrehan.
