Ann was born on February 23, 1940 in Pomona CA. where she attended High School and then obtained a two-year degree in Home Economics from Mt. San Antonio Community College.
She was the daughter of Richard and Gertrude (Withington) Hathaway.
Ann received a second degree in Engineering from the Thames Valley Technical School (Now Three Rivers) in Norwich at the age of 43. She was employed as an Engineering Technical Writer at Pratt & Whitney for 22 years.
She excelled in the many crafts and hobbies that she enjoyed. Quilt making was her life-time passion. She created many beautiful quilts with artwork themes and gave them out as gifts. She participated in the construction of the East Lyme Bicentennial Quilt which is displayed in the Historic Lee House and Museum.
She was very much involved with the American Field Service (AFS) and participated in the foreign exchange student program. She hosted students from the Philippines and New Zealand, with whom she maintained friendships for the remainder of her life.
Her other crafting passions were making greeting cards and basket weaving. She loved gardening and had many different flowers. She kept them well organized, labeled, and kept a photographed inventory of all of them.
She excelled at cooking, collected many recipes, and was a member of and coordinated a local Gourmet Dinner Club.
Ann served on the board of directors and was the Vice President of the “Junkins Family Association.” From which she is descended.
She was a member of the “New England Historic Genealogical Society” and did extensive work in the field of genealogy.
She has deep ancestral roots in New England. Some that go back to early Norwich, the Mayflower, Scotland, and England.
Her research into her genealogical roots, turned up some remarkably interesting and detailed ancestral history.
Ann is survived by her lifetime-companion William A. Jacobik of Niantic, son Kevin Cheney and daughter-in-law Yvette Dionne of Gales Ferry, and daughter Heather Cheney of Barnet VT. She also leaves two sisters, Sandra Pearson of Norwich, and Elaine Aldridge of Aquilla, Texas. She has several nieces, nephews, and many cousins. She also leaves behind her extended family from across the world and many, many close friends.
