Brian "Nelly" Nelson

Peacefully passed away, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at the Extended Care Unit at the Welland Hospital, at the age of 81. Beloved husband for 59 years to Wendy Jane (nee Poitras). Cherished father of Lori Nelson (John), Sheri (Dino) Cirillo, Janie (Gene) Watrous, Charity Rodrigue, and Julie (Luciano) Mussari. Loving and proud grandfather of Adam, Rhegan, Taia, Nate, Breanna, Mateo, Josh, and Brasco. He is also survived by his sister in law Starr Brideau, his nieces and nephews, as well as many friends.

In Nelly’s early years, he worked for Canadian Carberundum, Norton Abrasives, closing out his career with Canalview Homes. He also acted as an orderly at both GNGH and the old St. Catharines General Hospital and was a trained barber. He was also a proud owner of a 1968 Chevy Nova that was an active participant in many a street race (Moyer Road, York St in St. David’s, Queenston Heights) where the car often took home the #1 place! He enjoyed watching a variety of sports, but was a die-hard Toronto Maple Leafs fan to the very end. He also enjoyed being one with nature whether it be up at a cottage or camping with his family, on the water swimming or fishing, he simply enjoyed being outdoors, getting his hands dirty in nature.

In keeping with Brian’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, 3428 Portage Rd. Niagara Falls. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to either Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Welland Hospital – Extended Care Unit would be appreciated by the family.
