Charles was born in Newton on April 6, 1938, to the late Charles and Beatrice Gordon. He lived in Newton before moving back to the family farm in Hampton where he grew up and resided there for the past 45 years. He worked at Westbrook Farms and then M&M Mars in Hackettstown, NJ prior to his retirement. Charles was a graduate of Newton High School, a member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA), took part in 4-H and their pheasant rearing project for New Jersey Division of Fish & Game and was a longtime member of Christ Episcopal Church. He was passionate about gardening; always taking photos of beautiful flowers, was an avid traveler and loved attending concerts and shows.
Charles is predeceased by his wife Judith (Keesler) Gordon of 34 years; He is survived by his son, Kevin Gordon and his wife Lisa of Pompton Plains, NJ; his two grandchildren, Charles J. and Samantha Gordon; his siblings, William Gordon, Beatrice deVries and her husband Byron and Elizabeth Pierson and her husband Peter; and his friend, Bobby Armstrong.
A visitation will be held on Friday, February 18, 2022, from 3-7 p.m. at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton, NJ 07860. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 20, 2022, at 12 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 62 Main St, Newton, NJ 07860.
