Kenneth Monroe Hinson, age 90, of Newton, NC, and beloved husband of Jean Pryor Hinson, died on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory, NC. Born July 22, 1922, in Germantown, KY, he was the son of the late Emmitt Owen Hinson and Margaret Lee Butcher Hinson. Ken graduated from Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH, after serving in the US Air Force during World War II. He retired as an operations manager for Republic Steel in Cleveland, OH, where he had worked for thirty years. Ken was passionate about golf after he retired and enjoyed the fellowship of friends at Catawba Country Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Leonard Hinson, Lawrence Hinson, William Hinson, and Norman Hinson; and a sister, Katherine Hinson Ibbetson.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years, Jean Pryor Hinson of the home; his daughter Jane Mackie of Santa Rosa, CA; his son David Hinson and wife Mary Klein of Palo Alto, CA; grandchildren, Alison Lazewski, Lisa Mackie, Robert Hinson, and Rose Hinson; great-grandchildren, Anna Lazewski, Abby Lazewski, and Bryce Lazewski.
A family memorial service will be held at a later date.
