Janice Wayne Caldwell Pitts, 85, of Newton, NC, a former Army Officer’s wife, a devoted mother, lifelong Christian, and former Catawba County high school teacher went to live with Jesus on November 25, 2022.
The Christian faith has been an integral part of her life. During her formative years, she attended Calvary Baptist Church where she played the organ and piano for church services. After marriage, she joined Beth Eden Lutheran Church where she used her time and talents to serve the church in many ways including as a Council person, Women’s Circle and Altar Guild member.
Janice looked for ways to live out her faith beyond the walls of the church and serve the community she loved. She served as a Family Care Center Board Member, ECCCM Board member, and served in the Legal Auxiliary.
Janice graduated from Newton-Conover High School. She attended and graduated from Wake Forest University, a place near and dear to her. After college she married a West Point graduate. During her time as an Army Officer’s wife, they were stationed throughout the US and also lived in Panama during the Cuban Missile Crisis. She developed many enduring friendships that continued beyond her time as an Army Officer’s wife.
Her greatest joy came from raising her son and seeing him further his education.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence McClure Caldwell, MD, and her mother, Macel Ratchford Caldwell along with many uncles, aunts, and cousins on both sides of her family.
She leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law, William and Shannon; a brother and his wife, Lawrence “Larry” McClure Caldwell II, MD and Evelyn. Additionally, she also leaves behind two nieces and numerous extended family members and friends that are too many to name.
On Tuesday, November 29, 2022 there will be a private Family Graveside Committal followed by a Celebration of Life Service to be held at Concordia Lutheran Church in Conover, NC at 2:00pm with Pastor Mike Geml officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations or memorials can be made to: Concordia Lutheran Church in Conover, NC or The Lawrence McClure Caldwell, Sr., MD, Scholarship Fund at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC
