It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kent Kafentzis on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 after a long battle with cancer. Kent was born on December 31, 1962 in Richland, Washington to Beverly and Andy Kafentzis.
Kent graduated from Richland High School in 1981. He was all-state on his high school football team and MVP his senior year. Though he had many offers for college, he decided to attend University of Hawaii with his brothers. He graduated from UH in 1985. He was a first-team All- WAC and was ranked second among Rainbows’ tacklers. He played in the Blue-Gray and Senior Bowl Allstar games, and in 1986 was drafted in the ninth round of the NFL draft to the St. Louis Cardinals.
He had several careers in his lifetime from professional athlete to sales and management, but aside from his favorite job of “dad,” he loved to coach football.
Kent is survived by his loving children, Konner and Kennedy, his 12 brothers and sisters, and 28 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew RJ.
Kent was deeply loved and respected by his family and friends and will be missed by everyone who knew him.
A viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, June 19, 2024 from 5:00 - 9:00 pm at Eternal Valley Memorial Park. Funeral services will be held June 20, 2024 at 10:00 am followed by a graveside burial at 11:00 am. Immediately following the service, family and friends are invited to a gathering with food, drinks and laughter at Konner and Kennedy’s grandparents house.
