Fern Louise Jones

Fern Jones was born Fern Louise Jones December 13, 1924 in San Fernando, California to Clyde and Ella Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Ella, her sister Betty Spearman and her nephew Brad Spearman.

She attended San Fernando High School. After graduation, Fernie being the independent person she was ventured out on her own. She was a stewardess for the Flying Tigers during the World War II. After working with the Flying Tigers she eventually found a career at Lockheed and lived in Sunnyvale for 30 years. She enjoyed traveling to Europe, Asia, Mexico and had many adventures. She always had many stories to tell and souvenirs to share when she came back. There was never a dull moment when Fernie was around.

At 62 she retired and moved back to San Fernando to be a support to her family. She had lived in Wrightwood for many years and enjoyed playing Bunco with friends and joined the Red Hat Society. She loved to read and always found things to do. She wasn’t an artist but enjoyed collecting paintings, and plates along the way. She loved nik naks and kept every single one of them over the years. There was not an empty space on a wall, book case, or end tables; even the piano was full of pictures and treasures.

Fernie was quite the character and led an amazing life. To call her stubborn would be a tremendous understatement, ornery, strong willed, and opinionated you'd be getting close. Although she had a mind of her own she was dependable and would always follow through on what she said. She was outgoing and made friends where ever she went. She continued to send cards and notes, keeping in touch with friends and family up until two weeks before she passed away.

She was an amazing Aunt to her many nieces and nephews. She created a stable and safe environment for her great nephew and niece (Michael and Danielle). They always knew Fernie was there for them if they needed her. We all knew that. At the end of her life she enjoyed spending time reading and watching cartoons with Emery her great, great niece.

Fernie had a very kind and loving side and would generously help when a family member was in need, she would say "well this is what family does" in her matter of fact flair. Fernie had a tremendous sense of family and caring for others. It was an honor to give back to her at the end as in her words " this is what family does" 

We love you Fernie and will miss you dearly.
