Shirley McWilliams, (nee Hines), 80 years old, of Newburgh Indiana slipped peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on December 11, 2021. Born to the late Jesse and Eva Hines, Shirley was the seventh of eight children and her love and devotion to family was especially strong throughout her life.
She was employed at St. Mary’s Hospital as a Nurse’s aide and Unit Coordinator for over 40 years until her retirement in December 2009. Although dedicated to her vocation, Shirley’s true calling was in serving others. From organizing family reunions, being with family in difficult times, serving at her church, reaching out daily to check on her family or simply helping a stranger, Shirley always gave of herself.
Shirley is survived by her three sons, Dan Kennedy (Amy) of Newburgh, Ken McWilliams (Jenny) and Brian McWilliams (Christen) of Evansville; grandchildren, Jacob Madden (Cassie) of Nashville, TN, Sarah Sandefur (Keith), and Rachael Virgin (Mike) of Newburgh. She loved and adored her great-grandchildren, Miles Murphy, Harper Madden, Caroline Sandefur and Magnolia Virgin. Additionally, she had many nieces, nephews and cousins around the country.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were her husband of fifty-six years, Larry McWilliams; sisters, Katherine, Thelma, and Mary; brothers, Robert, Jack, Jesse (Gene) and James, and great-grandson, Liam.
While we rejoice in her entrance to Heaven, a tremendous loss is felt for those that love and will miss her.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Walnut Creek for their care of Shirley.
