Samuel L. Sloat III, 75, of Newburgh, IN passed away Saturday, September 17, 2022. He was born in the Naval Hospital in Philadelphia, PA in 1946 to the late Samuel L. Sloat Jr. and Roselia Sloat (Worrell).
After his family relocated to Evansville, IN, Sam graduated from Harrison High School in 1965. After high school, Sam joined the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Boxer. He then married his high school sweetheart, Deborah, “Debby”, Crawley on December 19, 1966.
After having served his time in the Navy, Sam began a career with Alcoa that would last more than 30 years. As a young man, Sam was an active member of the Masonic Lodge and eventually became a Shriner. Sam and Debby welcomed their son John to the family in 1970.
Sam devoted much time to coaching youth baseball and soccer while John was young. And somehow Sam also found the time to become a founding member of the Warrick County Klowns, a founding member and Assistant Chief of the Ohio Township Fire Department and an Emergency Medical Technician. He additionally earned both bachelors and master’s degrees from Indiana State University.
Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Debby; his parents, and his brother Richard. He is survived by his son, John (Teresa) of Orlando, FL and his sister, Carol Lee Cianciulli of Glassboro, NJ.
Funeral Services will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261 with burial in Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit 9:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
